Conspicuous Consumption (Preying Mantis)

Conspicuous Consumption (Preying Mantis), by Mary Stebbins Taitt. Click image to view larger. Check out those eyes! We saw the mantis capture the beetle and gnaw on it for quite a while--I took 57 pictures before we left and it was still gnawing!

Thanks Blue Rose and Joy for your visit and comments!

Biker Buddy and I were walking at Indian Springs and saw a lovely perfect goldenrod and I was going to photograph the flower but when I walked close to it, there was the preying Mantis. It had not yet caught the prey insect. As were were just looking at the mantis, it ran a couple steps forward and grabbed an insect from the flower. We watched for quite a while and took a number of pictures.
