Quick WC Sketch of BB

Quick WC Sketch of BB, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. I did this during PB's
piano lesson tonight. I just painted it quickly from life with a tiny
water color set I carry in my pocket. No pencil sketch or anything.
It may not be done--I know what Charlie, my teacher, would say, the
shadows aren;t dark enough. BB is a good model--he holds still for me
when he knows I'm painting him, and he's always handy. My goals are
1)to be able to paint likenesses and 2)to be able to do it
consistently. Or at least reasonably consistently.

Great sketch, especially with no pencil drawing first. I can't do that.

I can hear my painting teachers over the years - they'd say that there wasn't enough middle ground - tones that aren't the lightest OR the darkest - that there should be more volume and mass in the head by having areas (planes) of middle tones...

But that may have little to do with your two missions (likenesses and consistency), and that middle tone stuff can come later...

Oh! I almost forgot. Not only is the sketch lovely, so is BB.

Thank you thank you thank you. I think this is my best sketch yet of BB--the one I did tonight wasn't as good.

I think he's pretty cute, but I'm prejudiced.

He is a very good model--so if yr int he area and want to borrow one--
