The Coming Storm

The Coming Storm, by Mary Stebbins Taitt, in Leah's small Moleskine sketchbook, part of the moleskine exchange group 2. This image is part of the Temptation of Eve series. It is 7 x 5.5 inches in a double page spread. It is gesso with gouache, ink and salt. I discovered that salt does not make those nice little starburst patterns in gouache!

It pays to be loose and experiment sometimes! I'm not talking about Eve but the salt :)

LOL! Oh, my, no, we wouldn't want poor eve to be loose and experimental, now, would we?

The salt gives an interesting rough texture to the page, but I love the starbursts it makes in water colors.

The EXPRESSION of the subject is interesting...is it the cusp between anxiety and security? What is there to HOLD ONto, or to hide behind? Will it shelter me? That sort of emotion comes across to me here.
