Oriole Wood Carving

Oriole Wood Carving, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. This oriole carving I photographed at the Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, MI. I removed the museum background and replaced it with a fall foliage background and then ran a gausian blur on the foliage. I then ran a caricature action created by Lee Core which I got free from ActionCentral. It was easy to install and run. I apologize to the carving artist because I did not get his name, if anyone knows it, I'll include it. (click image to view larger) Posted by Picasa

Could your shot be called still life?
Of course I prefer them on nature and flying, but is a very good shot :)

Hi Reflex! I prefer them flying too, or at least live birds as opposed to art ones. But this was an incredibly lovely carving and I thoght I would honor the artists work by placing it "back in nature."

It is a still life of sorts, since it is still, and posed. But because of the background, I am not sure it would qulaify as a traditional still life. More like a "painting," perhaps. One form of art transformed into another.
